Desk Lamp

I made this unique banker lamp as a gift. The shade is made from wood veneer, an idea I got from seeing the material used as a shade for pendant style lamps in a restaurant. Because the recipient wanted to use this for color sensitive work like ink illustration I had to accommodate halogen bulbs, which put off a lot of heat. To prevent the shade from combusting it was “pickled” in a solution of alum and louvres were cut in the back side.

Arm is made from copper tubing and modified plumbing fittings. Base is lathe turned laminated cherry board. Shade is maple veneer and 18ga copper flashing.
